Arts and Cultural Development

In the City of Port Adelaide Enfield the Arts are a part of who we are and becoming an even bigger part all the time.  We are home to a significant number of artists, galleries, studios, theatres, museums and organisations including Vitalistatistix Theatre Company and Kurruru Youth Performing Arts. Please click on the Related Information Links at the right of this page to access further information.

We are also home to whimsical murals, unique sculptures and other works of Public Art.  The Port Adelaide Artists Forum is a strong advocate and voice of the arts community that forges ever wider community links through community development projects.  Council supports local arts projects through its Community and Event Grants programs.  The links at the right of this page can provide further information on these programs.

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield also represents one of the most culturally diverse communities in South Australia, communities which demonstrate strong connections to their place.  This attachment to place is strongly linked with a sense of pride and passion.  It is also linked with a strong desire to celebrate the identities, values, meanings and aspirations of a uniquely rich local culture.  Council’s Arts and Cultural Development Officer maintains an Artist’s networking database.  To have your details included please click here.  To view some of the work of our talented local artist’s click on the Artist’s Register link at the right of this page.

The City is currently in the midst of major urban redevelopment.  From an Arts and Cultural point of view this means exciting opportunities to create new works of Public Art that will enhance and complement the changing face of our City.   Public Art doesn’t always conform to traditional expectations; it can be subtly integrated into urban designs, or be bold and brash and even challenging to the observer.  Whatever form it takes one thing is certain; we are all richer for coming in contact with it.
